Every child is unique, and some children may need additional or different support at different stages of their development.
At The Children’s House, we aim to create an inclusive environment where children are valued as individuals and supported to participate, develop and enjoy nursery life.
Understanding Your Child’s Individual Needs
Our practitioners get to know children through everyday relationships, play and observation.
If we notice that a child may benefit from additional support, our approach is to consider their individual strengths and needs carefully and work closely with their family to agree appropriate next steps.
Early-years providers in England work within the SEND Code of Practice alongside the EYFS framework.
Parents Are Central to the Process
You know your child best.
We believe that any conversation about additional needs should involve parents and carers from the beginning.
We listen to your observations and concerns, share what we are seeing at nursery and work together to understand what will help your child.
How We Support Children
Use four visual steps:
1. Observe & Listen
We build a picture of your child’s strengths, interests and areas where they may need additional support.
2. Talk With You
We share observations and listen carefully to your experience of your child at home.
3. Plan Support
Where additional support is appropriate, we agree strategies and experiences designed around your child’s needs.
4. Review Together
We continue to observe progress and review support with families, adapting it where needed.
The nursery’s 2024 recruitment material also describes working with parents, identifying additional needs and liaising with the SEND lead and outside professionals.
