Starting nursery is an important step for both children and families.
At The Children’s House, we take time to get to know your child, understand their individual routines and interests, and help them become familiar with their new environment and the people who will care for them.
Every child is different. Some children quickly feel ready to explore, while others need more time, reassurance and familiarity.
We work closely with you to make the transition into nursery as positive and comfortable as possible, responding to your child as an individual rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.
Before your child begins nursery, we want to learn about the things that make them unique.
We will invite you to share information about their interests, routines, relationships, preferences and development. This helps their Key Person understand your child’s starting point and begin building a familiar, responsive relationship from the very beginning.
Every child has a Key Person who takes particular responsibility for helping them feel comfortable and secure within the nursery.
Your child’s Key Person will get to know their personality, interests and needs, support them as they become familiar with nursery and maintain regular communication with you about their experiences and development. This develops the old site’s existing Keyworker approach.
For younger children in particular, familiar routines can provide valuable reassurance.
We encourage families to share information about sleeping, eating, comfort, communication and everyday routines so that we can provide as much continuity as possible between home and nursery.
We will also keep you updated about your child’s day so that you know how they are settling and what they have been enjoying.
The old site currently describes written daily feedback for its youngest children covering activities, eating, sleeping and toileting, as well as verbal feedback from the Keyworker.
Starting nursery is not the only transition children experience.
As your child grows and moves from the Baby Room to the Toddler Room and later into Pre-School, we work to make each move feel familiar and positive.
Families are given information about the new room, routines, team and transition arrangements, while children have opportunities to become comfortable with their new environment.
